Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present this outstanding re-creation of a legendary 1965 NHRA Mopar AFX. Only 11 of the original cars were produced, 5 of them Coronets. NHRA outlawed them for some time in 1965. These crazy machines drew massive crowds and were eventually re-instated to race. The NHRA finally said you could run these Funny cars and the phrase stuck.
Meet the first Funny Car! These funny machines featured altered wheelbases. The rear end has been moved forward 15-inches and the front K frame has been moved forward 10-inches to aid in weight transfer. These are the correct distances. These were absolute terrors at the track. This example has just been completed. It is a rotisserie restoration by the Mopar guru's at Pro Classics in Texarkana, Texas just completed with few miles logged to test and tune.
This amazing machine features power by an all-aluminum 528 cubic inch, Hilbourne Electronic Fuel Injected High-Performance Hemi V8 that produces approximately 650 horsepower on 93 octane pump gas. Power is transmitted through the heavy duty 4-speed manual transmission to the full spool, 4.30 geared rear end.
