Although the economy experienced a gradual increase from 1936 to 1937 it took a slight dive in 1938. However the economy bounced back in 1939 which meant higher sales throughout the industry. Pointed fronts reappeared on most of this years GM cars and the Sixty-Special Cadillac was no exception. Cadillacs new ensemble was a three-element affair consisting of a slightly raked prow-shaped vertical radiator flanked by grilles in the catwalk area between the front fenders and the main nose section. Above the catwalks were headlamps repositioned higher and closer to the central grille. The Sixty-Special arrived weighing only some 230 pounds more than a comparable 1938 Series 60 sedan so its power-to-weight ratio was less than 31 pounds per horsepower quite good for the period. By contrast that years Packard Super Eight -- which incidentally cost 700 more than the Special -- carried nearly 35 pounds per horsepower. This particular 1939 Cadillac Series 60 Special Sedan has been nicely restored in the last few years to bring it back to its original beauty. One of only 5135 produced in 1939 the car is finished in its original black color with light blue interior. With the 346 Cu In flat head V8 under the hood connected to the three speed manual transmission the car is a joy to drive. The paint on the car is in wonderful condition with no major imperfections to note. The paint has a great shine and is very straight. All doors shut tight and have good lines all around them. The front and rear bumpers are both in great condition with no damage or pitting to either. All of the stainless trim around the car looks to be intact with no pitting. Inside the cars interior has been recovered in the blue / gray cloth and looks great. The seats in the front and back show no major wear and have had seatbelts added for safety. Carpet is all new as well as the headliner and door panels. The car is loaded with options inside like AM radio GM heater clock and spotlight. All of the wood is in good condition inside with no cracking or discoloration that we have found. Cadillac had settled on the 346-cid version of the monobloc V-8 for all its eight-cylinder models except LaSalle beginning in 1937. Rated at 135 horsepower at 3400 rpm the 346 had five more horses than the 1935 V-8 and 10 more than the one-year-only 322-cid monobloc. The engine is very clean and has been painted during the restoration of the rest of the car. The car starts up and runs great with no issues that we have found. No smoking and the car runs incredibly smooth like a Cadillac should. There have been newer bias ply tires installed around original style red steel wheels with correct Cadillac hubcaps. The current mileage shows 51055 and the VIN number is 6294925. The car is being sold on a clean Oregon title showing that the previous owner has had the car for nearly 2 years.
